Congratulations Boori Pryor – Award-Winning Author!

When Boori Pryor visited ERC last month, he proudly showed us his latest book Shake a Leg which had just been short-listed for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards. We are delighted to announce that Shake a Leg has won the Children’s Fiction section of the Awards! Boori and the Illustrator, Jan Ormerod, have been awarded $80,000. Shake a Leg is a warmhearted instructive book, with Boori’s optimism and warm personality shining through. The Library copy (signed by Boori) is proudly on display. You may have seen some activity around the bridge in the middle of the library this week. We are preparing a display of the Children Book Council’s Short-listed and Notable books for 2011. Fiction, non-fiction and picture books located on the blue shelves are available for you to look at and borrow now. The rest of the display will evolve as we draw nearer to Book Week 20 – 26th August 2011. The theme is ‘One World, Many Stories’ …bring us your ideas.

An ERC/St Mary’s joint musical production to be staged at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre from 1st – 3rd September 2011.

Steven Herrick, Poet and Author, will be at Edmund Rice College on Thursday 10th March, 2011 giving an innovative and energetic performance about Modern Poetry.

Shaun Tan wins Oscar for best animated short film

Australian filmaker Shaun Tan and British producer Andrew Ruehmann have won the Academy Award for best animated short film with The Lost Thing.

The film is about a strange creature that seems to be a combination of an industrial boiler, a crab and an octopus discovered by a boy in Melbourne while collecting bottle caps near a beach.
